Neurotic
You can't... I mean you won't... You shouldn't... Y-You should just...
Sardonyx masks her insecurities and stress under a well built facade that she has constructed over her life, her abnormally high-strung demeanor cloaked by a wall of fake collected composure; inside, however, is a whole different story compared to what she lets on to the public eye. In the depths of her mind so damaged by the ire of war, her thoughts are a collective mess of fragmented thoughts and stressed recollections, forcing her to see a world through the tinted light of an overanxious veteran. Due to such memories, Sardonyx suffers from instabilities in her mental capacity, thus causing her to become very tense and stressed in any pressuring situations.
Ill-tempered
Can you just shut up for five seconds, you worthless, pathetic brat?!
Cantankerous and easy to agitate, Sardonyx is a gem who's temper is as sharp as her tongue. A short temper is the least of her concerns, but being quick to anger often leads to stressful occurrences and snappy remarks that she often regrets later. Despite being ornery, she has attempted to deal with her quick-to-anger actions and thoughts as her ill-demeanor usually causes problems that lead to messy endings or plain prejudice on both sides. In often cases, it is difficult to keep her temper in check.
Cynical
Just because you did this for me doesn't mean it was done in integrity, or even so much the 'goodness' of your heart. Gems' don't have such a form...
Mistrustful and suspicious, Sardonyx is extremely skeptical of others in the first contact of meeting someone. She believes there isn't so much as an aspect of sincerity in a pure form, and often comes off as negative to many. Her personality is a result from the events of her past, forcing her to be skeptical and distrusting.
Stubborn
Why can't you just, I mean, just let me do this?
Sardonyx is determined, strong willed, and extremely stubborn. Once she sets her mind onto something it is near impossible to pull her away from her set course of thinking and goal. She is strong willed in her opinions, often leading up to the point in where she is strict in her beliefs and orders. Any directive given is one she must see through from beginning to end, now matter the consequences or risk.
Indifferent
Do I appear as if I care about what goes on, or even what you do within the company of my presence?
Sardonyx is notorious for giving off an uncaring front, gazing at a society through a faded view of phlegmatic design. Her detached demeanor gives her the effect of being unobservant and impassive, but she is far from it. Her traits of skepticism and short temperament fill in the gaps where indifference leaves holes, her personality a nauseating mix of impassiveness and frightening aggression. Though her indifference is only towards other gems and certain situations - in which she is fond to turning blind eyes to, as it doesn't concern her - she never reserves it for her superiors and loyalties.
Skittish
I'm not nervous? I-I mean, how absurd can you possibly be?
Functioning into her neurotic personality, this trait is just another layer built into the foundation of her anxiety and stress. Caused from certain events in her history, she often acts jumpy and nervous within the presence of strangers and sudden groups of authority, usually going about with her nervous tick of scanning faces for hidden intents and clenching her fists for assurance.
History
Sardonyx has always known the greatness and loyalties of Homeworld. At the start of her birth, she was trained to be a soldier just like many other young gems, mentored under a harsh and merciless commander who shaped her into a warrior deemed suitable; she was not a spectacle to behold, but she held a promising future for herself. Over the first couple millennium of her life, she was stationed on different planets all over, assigned an assortment of tasks ranging from annihilating hostile species to dispatching rouge turned gems. It wasn’t until the start of the Rebellion did she acquire a better purpose in her life.
Shunted off under Yellow Diamond’s command, she was positioned as a squadron leader assigned with the directive of destroying rebels on the backwater planet known as Earth. Just weeks after news of war having broken out, Sardonyx was dropped onto the front lines where she proved herself as far more valuable soldier and leader. It wasn’t until the first few years of the war did she develop clairvoyance, and though it was an ability as random as the coming of the tide, it helped in certain dangerous circumstances. Many a traitor fell shattered to her blade at the cost of her use of augury in contrast to the multiple lives of her fellow comrades saved.
Despite her fluency and luck during the war, her fortune was eventually to run short. A failed attack against a rebel gem earned her a gem nearly fractured in two when her opponent dealt a devastating blow to the stone in her forehead, her clairvoyance never having been able to predict such an event from occurring. Her pride damaged and her gem shattered, she was a fallen commander abandoned among the desecrated soil until a member of her battalion stumbled upon her. The gem retreated back to Homeworld where she was treated with the healing powers of a medic and left to recover; only a few days after her salvage, she was promptly discharged from service.
Sardonyx was left bitter after her demotion, and even with her gem having been healed, much of the damage had already been done to her physically and mentally. An ocular defect, she had lost most of the sight in her right eye due to permanent stress fractures within the core of her gemstone, labeling her a limitation and defect. Despite such consequences, her reputation of grandeur and efficiency on the battlefront had not been easily forgotten. Deemed too valuable to waste – with her tactical skills and clairvoyance – Yellow Diamond personally had her placed in high regards as a mentor to train young gems into fine, loyal warriors. She remained satisfied with this position until the will of Yellow Diamond called upon her to take a squad of escorts to visit the surface of Earth one last time to try and quell the remaining uprisings, and, upon arriving there, barely managed to escape with her life when a small band of rebels destroyed their ship and her comrades.
Her last chance of escape gone, given the Galaxy Warp had been completely destroyed at the end of the war, she was forced to reside on Earth as what she thought was 'imprisonment without the chains', slowly biding her time for an attempt to flee back towards Homeworld. That opportunity, however, never arrived; her calls for retrieval were never answered, and for once in her life, she felt utterly lost. In bitter resentment towards the Crystal Gems who still thrived among the humans, she watched the world change in many ways, spurred on by their guiding hand that she desired no part of. Fortunately, she was never truly alone as many of her Homeworld sisters had been abandoned on Earth during the course of the war, and with no way back, forced to live solitary existences within the flourishing population. Her predicaments did not seem as dismal as prior her abandonment until news had arrived in the form of a message from what remaining Wailing Stones had not been destroyed just years after the Rebellion: the Diamond Authority had fallen from a surprise attack by enemy forces that had found a temporary way back into the planet she had called home. Grief-stricken and ripped from any hope left, Sardonyx vowed a bitter resentment to the Gem who had started it all - Rose Quartz - and to her flock of disgraceful, pathetic followers.
Presently, she lives around the area of Beach City with nothing but her experience and shattered memories of an Authority for company.
